Legislation to raise permanent enlisted strength of the navy from 131000 to 217000 was recommended to the House Naval Affairs Committee by Captain H Laning acting chief of the Bureau of Navigation. It would include 175000 seamen 24000 apprentice seamen and firemen in training 12000 in trade schools and 6000 in the flying corps. Laning said the increase is needed to carry out naval policy to match the world’s strongest powers and that without it no expansion program can be carried out. He stressed the need for more officers in the regular navy and Seecee Blan by which they might be drawn.
Muskegon Michigan December reports Milo Piper insurance man charged with killing Miss Frieda Weielman of Chicago faced new admissions. His wife Hilda Piper reportedly confessed to marrying Iva Goodenough at Benton Harbor in 1903, later known as Missy Marton Grey, suggesting an alias link to a matrimonial bureau run by Miss Grey. Authorities note possible connections to the Benton Harbor case as the inquiry continues.
