Bernstorff Loses An Honorary Degree At Pitt University

In Pittsburgh on December 17 Count von Bernstorff former German ambassador to the United States had his honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Pittsburgh stricken from the lists by the trustees. The 1912 charter day ceremony had awarded him the degree along with six other Germans whose names were also ordered removed.

Sailors Describe Hun Sea Victory

Sailors from ships sunk by German warships in the North sea say fire was opened at a range of 3,500 yards. Within a half hour the British armed ships except the Pelew were sunk. Crews from steamers in the convoy saved many sailors landed on Norway's west coast. Ninety nine of the rescued were British.

City Hall notes say the board of works ordered the prima facie assessment roll for the Lake Avenue project after Grace Construction reported completion. Washington December 17 Debate on the Walsh coal and oil land leasing bill continued in the Senate with administration leaders confident of passage tomorrow before adjournment for the holidays. Senator Swanson introduced amendments to remove private claims adjustments on naval reserve number two in California, triggering attacks by Senator King on bureaucratic methods and cruel treatment of prospectors.
