Spotted Rattler Killed In Whitley County Farm Area

A two and a half foot spotted rattlesnake with twelve rattles and a button was killed Thursday evening by Ret Ned O'Donnell on the Slessman farm at Loon Lake Take. It is reportedly the first spotted rattler in the county for years, with black varieties more common. The snake was found on the road by the 15 year old daughter of Pete ilk near Lew Wolf farm west of the lake. She fled after the incident, throwing sheep shears at the snake and calling for help. O'Donnell dispatched the reptile with one fence rail. Blue racers, tree snakes, red bellies and other varieties remain common in the district.
