Powers Trial Is Off In Goebel Case

POWERS TRIAL IS OFF QWORGATOWN Ky July The trial of Caley Powers charged with complicity in the murder of Senator William Goebel has been indefinitely postponed after Special Judge Robins adjourned when attorneys could not agree on a suitable motion The trial will not proceed until a new judge is appointed by Governor Beckham Defense lawyers had sought to prove the Goebel caucus declaring him governor was illegal, to support a pardon Powers received from Governor W S Taylor during his brief term The pardon has previously been held invalid Powers produced the pardon upon arrest.

Body of Mrs Besancon Claimed in Bluffton

Mrs Fremont Winsel of this city traveled to Bluffton to reclaim the body of her sister Mrs Irene Besancon who was shot and killed Sunday by Mrs Bila LaPointe. The remains were transported by train to the Eel River cemetery for burial. A preliminary hearing for Mrs LaPointe is set for Friday in Bluffton.
