Washington April 45 The opening arguments for and against Canadian reciprocity dominated the House debate. Speakers including Claud Kitekin and Wing Asher Cl. Himis clashed over protectionist principles. The controversy featured sharp repartee as Taft’s approach drew scrutiny and Democrats faced pressure on policy. The debate resumes Monday and continues through Tuesday.

Mrs. George Mills of 44 Subhita Street was severely injured when a street car hit her near Wayne Street around 10 pm. She fell unconscious, received first aid at Meyers Drug Store, and was taken to her home. Her husband escaped injury as he watched traffic. Conductor G. Easterley and motorman J. A. Hatser were noted in the report.
Six people were injured when a fifty pound ammonia tank exploded in the basement of a rug store in Cleveland's public square. Ammonia fumes drove employees and customers from the store as workers battled burns and one man was knocked unconscious, with others sustaining burns and related injuries. The blast caused chaos in the shop and surrounding area as responders attended the scene.
William Esterline a former Abolte township trustee and long time Allen county farmer died yesterday at Lutheran Hospital aged sixty nine after five months of locomotor ataxia. Born near New Carlisle Ohio November 7 1831 he served in Civil War with Company I Seventh Indiana Infantry then in Sherman’s army. Surviving: widow, sons J Walter W Esterline of Lafayette township Albert Samuel James Frank Chester Harry Hattie Esterline of Arcola, ten grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 9am at residence and 10am at Dunfee Christian Church with interment Lindenwood.
Warsaw Indiana April 15. The Warsaw lodge Elks No 802 installed new officers Exalted Ruler T Frazer Leader Knight A S Widaman Loyal Knight C R Evans Lecturing Knight R Zimmerman and others. Following the ceremony George M Thomas George Culin Warsaw and Erwin Hein Leesburg were initiated into one order.
Henry Heltwinkel aged 95, longtime Fort Wayne volunteer fireman and member of the Anthony Wayne Fire Co., died of paralysis at his daughter Mrs Michael Conners home. He helped found the Fort Wayne volunteer fire legacy dating to 1841 and leaves a daughter, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services set for St Marys Catholic Church.
Columbia City Ind April 18 The John Rapp ditch project in Griffith township and one of the county’s largest sales was disposed of Saturday afternoon at bell clock bidding close. The main ditch contains 11 828 feet with tile sizes from 6 inch to 82 inches. Bids included Collans Strick Tyndall Co 1236, Sunonitynte Brain Tile Co 1988, Binpus Drain Rite Co 59950, LG Lillard stone Strang Product Co 1072, Anspauch Bros 1898, John J Stockert 2. The contract awarded to Tile Tar of Marton Ind. Construction let to James P Calvin main line and branch four and branch one and James L Maroney branches two and three.
Mrs. Mary Ann Titinson aged 63 wife of Christop Dler Johnson of the east of the city died suddenly this morning from a heart attack while at the breakfast table with her family. She left a husband and several children and burial is planned in Rockford.
Easter Sunday in Decatur Indiana will be observed as churches host sermons and services across the city. The Methodist church will hold special sermons with Evans Church providing additional addresses and a Young People program planned by local organizers.
A Terre Haute man was killed when struck by a moving car. The driver reported the victim stepped into the street in front of the vehicle. the impact hurled the victim about twenty five feet. details are incomplete from the clipping.
