True Story Of the Capture of Jefferson Davis Survivor Recalls Tale
One of the few veterans who helped capture Jefferson Davis recounts new details not in common memory. Theodore Donaldson, born near Massieville in 1620, served from the start and fought at Stone River Chickamauga Vicksburg. He and Capt. Joseph Yeoman’s group disguised as Confederates surprised Davis at Irwinsville Ga. on May 10 1865. Davis allegedly did not wear a woman’s dress and remained composed, stepping from an ambulance to confront his captors. Donaldson died of heart disease days after sharing his memories, receiving a pension.
