Mrs. Julia Mayer was blown through an open door but uninjured after a fireplace filled with gasoline fumes exploded. The blast wrecked the room, sending debris around the area and prompting witnesses to report the incident.
A gasoline explosion at 29 West Wayne Street shattered windows and caused a general wreck when Mrs. Julia Mayer, while washing a lace throw in a gasoline basin, dumped fuel on dry leaves and struck a lit match. She escaped serious injury, though her face arms and hair were badly burned and she was thrown into the yard by the blast. A physician treated her injuries.
In Washington on May 23 Representative Howard of Alabama introduced a resolution in the House for the impeachment of President Cleveland for alleged illegal sale of bonds, improper bond proceeds use, and failure to enforce antitrust laws. In New York Abbey Schoeffel and Graw, opera managers, have assigned.
A lively concert is set for this evening in the Arcade with merchants providing the music. The event aims to entertain patrons and is expected to be well received.
Late locals report the Peru Mannerchor will host a grand July 4 picnic inviting singing societies from Logansport Kokomo Lafayette Marion Wabash Huntington Fort Wayne and Rochester Peru societies will also participate. In Manton Illinois the Council murder case jurors after four days of evidence and arguments voted 21 years to death on the first ballot. They accepted a compromise of 35 years confinement and Judge Parker imposed the sentence. Council killed Silas Morgan on a Carterville public street last August without provocation.

The High School Athletic Association held its field day yesterday with multiple winners led by A A Greenich who won the 100 yards dash in 11 seconds and Stonecifer who topped several events.
