Doctors to Meet as Indiana Medical Society Holds Fort Wayne Meet

The 47th annual Indiana State Medical society convention will be held May 28 and 29 in Fort Wayne at the Plymouth Congregational church. More than 500 delegates are expected. speakers from Vincennes Petersburg Fort Wayne and Indianapolis will present papers on obstetrics surgery and neurology. The city offers free streetcar transport and railroad rate deals, with receptions at the Fort Wayne club and a full two days of sessions and program.

Miss Sparrow Has Flown From Michigan Asylum

Miss Henrietta Sparrow sister of Edward W. Sparrow has gone into hiding after being committed to an asylum by the Probate court. The Michigan supreme court ruled no appeal and her trunks were moved from her brother’s house the night of the decision. Sparrow is in California and reports say the patient is near marriage.

Indianapolis Water Supply Tarnished by River Pollution

May 16 report from Indianapolis shows city sanitary official and state health secretary inspecting the White River above the water company intake. They found vault cleaners dumping filth along the bank and washing kegs into the stream which feeds the wells supplying the city. The officials condemn the conditions as terrible and warn that rain washes the refuse into the river and then into the pumping system. Dr. Hurley notes dilution over the long river stretch before reaching consumers.

Women Fight Saloon Traffic In Ellis Mayor Fight

Ellis Kansas elected a woman mayor and five women to the council last month and they began a campaign to close saloons. They jailed a saloonkeeper for magistrate action and after three days of juror qualification nearly 200 men were examined. a jury is now hearing the case with eminent counsel on both sides.

Uniformed Parcel Porters Serve Jersey City Station

A uniformed parcel porter service was begun at the Jersey City Pennsy station to aid arriving and departing passengers on the Pennsylvania System. Porters accompany travelers between Cortlandt street ferry and the American Line Pier, Sixth Avenue Elevated, and Central Railroad of New Jersey Station, and between Desbrosses street ferry and the Ninth Avenue Elevated. The service has now extended to Philadelphia Broad Street.

Fire and Water in a Well Near Warakoneta

Near Warakoneta Ohio on the Lenox farm a well spouted fire and water after oil drilling by Horse Shoe Oil Co. They struck gas and 400 quarts of nitro glycerine was used. A 7 inch pipe carried water 15 feet high while flames rose 20 to 30 feet. The gas kept burning the water.
