Enterprising Scamps Duped for 22000 Draft
Newark May 14 Pinkerton detectives turned over James Cregan and Charles Becker to a policeman at Broad and Market streets they followed from Philadelphia. The pair raised a $12 draft to the order of J H Dean on the Nevada bank of San Francisco for 22000 and received 22000 in gold on December 20 1894. Banks involved were Nevada Woodland and Crocker Woodworth of California. Over 2300 found on Cregan. They are held for extradition. A San Francisco dispatch reports grand jury action Friday.
