The executive council of the American Federation of Labor in Indianapolis will meet to select a trade for an eight hour day starting May 1. The 1889 national action covered carpenters and joiners in 137 cities with 46 197 beneficiaries. painters may be chosen this time, and a strike could follow if bosses resist. President Gompers will preside as the council sessions last two or three days.
