Private Exhibition of Hypnotism at Empire Theater

The Empire theater hosted Mons H DeGray and Mile Josephine in a hypnotism show for newspaper men. A committee of four tested the act, including a 500 pound human bridge and two back to back chairs supporting Josephine while Professor DeGray stood, with no apparent discomfort during the cataleptic trance.

A young couple appeared before Squire France at about 9 am seeking a marriage. The groom identified as Robert S. Bell and the bride Jennie S. Karns, both of Columbia City. A Whitley County clerk issued the certificate, and the couple seemed to be avoiding their parents.

Jury Returns to Sealed Verdict in Hemmerle Kennedy Case

In a New Year routine, Otto Hemmerle v. Phillip Kennedy saw a jury return to the circuit court by 9 am after Judge O Rourke deemed their verdict incomplete. The 12 jurors were sent back with orders to reconvene tomorrow with a sealed verdict as county offices remain closed for the holiday.

Death of Fort Wayne merchant Henry C Graffe

Henry C Graffe longtime Fort Wayne merchant died in Hot Springs Ark after pneumonia and liver ulceration ended a health trip. A German native, he built Mayer Graffe into a leading Fort Wayne firm and served as common council member water works trustee and Jenny Electric Power president. Funeral plans await arrival of the body. R T McDonald traveled to Cincinnati last night.
