French served time and was released last September returning to Danville to marry Lacross in a dramatic romance that reads like fiction. Proposals include trading programs to earn wages on release and using convict labor for road work with stone prepared inside prisons or at a fixed location for free labor markets. Hayden Road Free and Sold to County Commissioners

This afternoon at 2:30 the New Haven gravel road owned by F J Hayden was purchased by the board of county commissioners for 86280. The 48 foot wide road runs for nearly seven miles along the St Joe river from Spy Run avenue bridge to Autrop farm. Appraised at 6300 in October, this is the third toll road freed by the county after the Lee road and part of the Maysville road.

Indiana Supreme Court frees counties from bridge injury suits

Bristow Indiana news reports the state supreme court ruling that counties are not liable for injuries from defective bridges. The decision dismisses numerous suits after a St Joseph river bridge collapse near Elkhart county on July 4. Over 100 spectators fell 40 feet into the water but there were no fatalities. many were permanently injured. The ruling ends actions against the county and money requests for medical expenses.

Old Resident Koehler Dies After Illness at Lake Township

Charles Henry Koehler a prominent Lake township farmer and ex justice of the peace died after a brief illness of erysipelas. He was born in Germany about 65 years ago and survived by his wife and six children. Funeral at Lake chapel with interment at Eel River cemetery.
