Kansas City April 17 In the cell of William Taylor the Meeks family murderer brought from Carrollton to prevent lynching a steel saw eight inches long and half an inch wide was hidden in an old satchel. He would have been able to escape within half an hour with uninterrupted work. Marshal Keshler ordered round the clock watch and barred visitors except lawyers as thousands visited the prisoner.

Pennsylvania detective Doc Stoll was assaulted by Sleepy and Pete Merz near the Pittsburg rail yard. Stoll warded off blows with a club and fists, then summoned help, pursued the attackers, and a gun was drawn before the assailants fled. No arrests. A separate row over a partition fence ends in a horse being beaten, with no arrests but humane society to intervene.
A unidentified man attempted to assault a respectable woman in the alley between Jefferson and Madison streets on Lafayette last night about nine. A passing young man prevented the act and helped the woman home. The woman requests her name remain private.
