At Nauvoo Illinois the house of John Wilhelmy burned. His two young children, left alone in the building, perished in the blaze. Separate dispatches note a Pennsylvania man killed by a drunken attacker and other tragic events in brief items.
Emma Cartzdamer, daughter of John W. Cartzdamer, at Somerford in Loudon County, was caught by a revolving shaft while cleaning machinery on Saturday evening. Her right arm was broken and she sustained serious internal and external injuries. Recovery is hoped.
A fight between a twelve-year-old colored boy and fourteen-year-old white Willie Galbraith left the colored boy fatally struck after the white boy struck him with a heavy stone. The blow crushed the skull and exposed brain, reported from San Antonio.
In San Francisco on February 28 D J Murphy former district attorney was shot in the neck by policeman John Moroney the prosecuting witness in an indecent exposure case Moroney fired without warning Murphy was wounded Moroney attempted suicide while being taken to custody with the wound deemed probably fatal and Moroney captured after the incident
Bodies of Rosa Stark and her two infants were found near Pleasant Hill Northampton County. Coroner's inquest reveals she gave birth to an infant Monday night and killed it then buried it Tuesday morning she gave birth to a second child and killed it before dying from exposure. The incident sparked public outrage as investigators pursue motive believed to be concealment of her shame. The report also notes Utah memorial to Congress in progress.

In Shelbyville Kentucky a gun misfire at night killed 14 year old stepson of Seaton Vannatta when a shotgun cocked by his stepmother was being lowered. Separate accident at Blessing's opera house left C T Sprague injured after stepping into an open cellar passage. The dentist note stands as afterword.
Miss Emily Numbers a schoolteacher north of Salem Indiana was found mutilated in a school house with her tongue cut out and an arm severed. Local excitement grows as authorities pursue unknown assailants and villagers vow punishment if caught. Chicago strikers and Louisville lottery notes echo in the same era.
