The Indianapolis Greenbackers convene a solemn conclave to adopt a platform and nominate candidates for state offices. A sensational tragedy reports six children drowned while their father and mother could not provide aid. Other items note Bank of England rate cut, a Democratic committee call in Harrisburg, and Estabrook fire loss and Danish king’s congress patronage.
General Rucker was placed on the retired list and General Rufus Ingalls was appointed to the vacancy as quartermaster of the United States Army.
The Sherman flour mill in Allentown burned this morning with an estimated loss of 30000 dollars and insurance of 10600 dollars. Before the firemen arrived burglars blew open the mill safe, stealing 60000 dollars and fleeing. Authorities suspect an explosion sparked the blaze.
The Indiana Supreme Court ruled that dogs are not legal property and cannot be stolen. The decision arose from a Huntington County case where John Doe took a neighbor’s dog, with the court noting dogs are not taxed as property for value but to discourage propagation of the species.

Dr Carl Proegler marks his 45th birthday and is noted for wearing the Iron Cross from the German Emperor for bravery at St Zurindsy in the Franco Prussian war.
Will Brackenridge and Wilsie Bay Leas return from Warsaw this afternoon with Miss Dade Frasier and Miss Lulu Ross. The party plans to attend the Booth entertainment at the Academy tonight.
