Jss Peters and Jno Harrison escaped from jail last night in Lebanon Pennsylvania. Peters is the son in law of Charles Drews who was hanged here for the murder of old Joe Raber and Peters was the principal witness in convicting five of the blue eyed six in that crime.
From St Petersburg word reaches that the Emperor and Giers favor peace while aides to the Czar push for war. Vienna reports the insurrection has stalled, with fighting at a standstill.

They organized at one o clock electing John Waddle president OC T Law secretary and William E Jones registrar.
A daring midday theft occurred in the county treasurer’s office at city hall. Treasurer Crosby was alone when a man entered to pay taxes, while a second confederate chaoticly blocked the scene, leading to a bold, successful robbery.
A thief forced entry at a door left ajar, grabbed cash from the money drawer, and fled as the treasurer alerted others. The alarm sounded but the culprit escaped with $760, while the first accomplice vanished in the ensuing confusion.
A Quincy special reports Solomon L Zahlkopf a 23 year old Russian Jewish laborer vanished after a well dressed stranger lured him away to Chicago for work. Jews fear the stranger is a Russian government agent seeking secrets Zahlkopf allegedly knows.
Albany February 15 Johnson elected assembly clerk with Tammany support. Tammany members shift to Republicans in both houses, aiding Johnson. Pitts resolution to vest committee appointments in the lieutenant governor passes with three Tammany senators voting yes. The lieutenant governor will appoint standing committees.
Cariaco February 15. A panicky day on the exchange with wheat four to five cents lower, corn two cents down, oats one cent off, and pork and lard falling about a dollar and a quarter. The crash followed the failure of H. O. Keenyan, a large commission firm, with undisclosed magnitude and many affected operators. E. W. Fisher also suspends with liabilities around $20,000.
The Sentinel reports Master Mechanic Morris tendered his resignation causing regret in railroad circles where he is greatly esteemed. Some linked it to Jacob Joanna’s appointment rumor, but Morris declined the general master mechanic post due to health. He plans retirement to a Bridgeport Connecticut homestead with his wife remaining there.
West End club gathers Friday evening at E. H. McDonald on West Wayne street for a farewell party before the club disperses. Hosts W. P. Chapman B. R. Alden W. H. Pyke Frank Fee and F. S. Lightfoot assist the hostess. No masquerade as some papers claimed.

Joseph Amstutz, an Omish farmer from Springfield Township, told county health officer Dr. Dills that he sold a diseased hog to the Yaeger family for 20 dollars. He traced the origin to Alexander Dollarhite of Bull Rapids and said the animal appeared healthy at slaughter. Authorities pursue the east end purchaser and plan inspections to cleanse the market.
Obituary notes the death of Hon J C Davis at his son-in-law J K McCracken’s residence on Hanna Street after a year of illness from heart enlargement compounded by the loss of his wife ten days earlier. A native of Tompkins County New York aged sixty seven, Davis helped build the city, served as city councilman, county commissioner, and later registrar of the U S land offices at Santa Fe New Mexico before resigning in poor health. He left four children and three married daughters.
Mayhew of Chicago and Mrs C M Street of Santa Fe N M were telegraphed for and expected to attend the funeral Friday at 2 o clock from Mr McCracken s residence. Rev David W Moffat D D will conduct the services.
At a morning meeting the subscription committee formed a five man subcommittee Joseph K. Edgerton D O Fisher M W B Spencer J F W Meyer and Chas McCulloch to work with the railroad to procure deeds for the shop site property. The committee reported $36,980 raised by noon and said efforts would renew tomorrow. A Virginia convention delegate urged the chairman drink Dr Bull s Cough Syrup to ease his hoarse voice.
Fort Wayne February 14 1882 fellow workmen and friends express sorrow over the sudden death of James Hanley. They extend condolences to his family and commend them to divine mercy while ordering the testimonial to be published in the Fort Wayne Sexy 3 Gazette News and Journal by the shop committee.
On January 10 the 140th Monthly Grand Distribution of the Louisiana State Lottery named Fortune favorites. Top prize went to No. 76,096 held by L M Davis of Morning Star near Memphis Tennessee. Other prizes went to Sebastian Lehman Denver Colorado. True A Heath Concord New Hampshire. Vicksburg Mississippi. L Sanders New York City. and five $1,000 prizes to holders in New Orleans New York City Toledo Ohio Norfolk Virginia and Topeka Kansas. The 142d drawing is set for March 14 with details available from M A Dauphin New Orleans Louisiana.
