A Fort Wayne Gazette reprints Robert G. McNiece’s letter denouncing foreign secularism and calling for a national reform to sustain Christian governance. The page also notes parliamentary reform, Gladstone’s possible resignation, Disraeli’s rise, and Japan–Britain relations with Yokohama garrison concerns.
The bill introduced by Representative Woodford proposes reducing department clerical staff and increasing daily working hours. It argues current clerical levels are excessive and that longer hours could trim the workforce by about one third.

Topeka February 10 The Kansas House passes a resolution 57 to 26 urging the County Attorney to take steps to bring ex Senator Pomeroy to trial.
The Indiana State Board of Agriculture met in Indianapolis to finalize plans for the upcoming State Fair and Exposition. A three member committee plus three Indianapolis citizens will manage the Exposition of 1874 with full voice and equal pay as board members. The board also ordered an audit of debts to claimants and adjusted livestock premium allocations to reflect each department's relative value.
A decree was adopted and the bill dismissed after a lengthy discussion. The day was largely devoted to arranging the premium list as Chicago adjourned the Tribune until tomorrow morning.
The memorials on District of Columbia governance were referred to a joint select committee. House approved verbal amendments to the Court of Inquiry for General Howard. Several bills addressed Cherokee strip settlements, telegraph lines for Rio Grande posts, removal of tribes to the Creek Nation, and oversight of Indian contracts. A military reduction bill and measures to tighten Indian affairs administration were reported. Episcopalian missions receive land in Minnesota.
A courier report from a pack train says Lieutenant Robinson and Corporal Coleman were surrounded by about forty Indians ten miles from the mill. Robinson advanced toward the train before being cut off. he escaped to the train while his horse was killed. Castine saw no trace of them two hours after the attack. Col Bullock reported a large party at the Horse Shoe crossing dancing.

John Young is shot dead by Albert Holmes, alleged husband of a resident.
