In Paris last night Vignaux made a 304 run but could not catch Slosson who closed the evening with a total score of 2,400. Vignaux ended at 2,084.
John Dalton the brakeman who lost a leg to a freight train last Thursday died at four o clock yesterday afternoon. He was a young Olmstead Falls resident and will be buried there.
Last night a fire at Julius Misseck’s farm home near Wata Wata killed Eliza Medler aged 42 her daughter Emma Ieadore Medler aged 19 and her son Arthur aged 6. The other inmates escaped.
Two young men entered Fred Held’s jewelry shop in Massiton and assaulted him before looters grabbed eighteen watches from the show case. An alarm was raised but the fleeing robbers have not been captured as of press.
About 150 creditors gathered in Cincinnati to push for quick settlement of their claims. Speakers condemned delays by the assignee and a committee was formed to urge the probate court for prompt action. A permanent creditors association was also proposed to safeguard interests.
In Saxtsville Wisconsin two unnamed brothers embroiled in a lawsuit clashed on Thursday night. The younger shot the brother through the heart area injuring him fatally as the wife fought him with an ax and the family dog. The assailant fled and remains missing.
At a meeting of parties involved in the Mexican National railway 302 miles are completed including the Corpus Christi connection. Ties rails and rolling stock are on hand to cover 729 miles and construction stock will be increased by 83 million with one third subscribed at the meeting and the rest offered pro rata to stockholders.
A mass of earth fifty feet high collapsed on laborers yesterday at the Broadway site in Cleveland while digging for the New York Chicago and St Louis Railroad roadway. Two men were on top shoveling as others worked beneath.
Twenty five tons of earth fell as a bank collapsed trapping Joe Zoecky and Henry Haast. Zoecky suffered both legs broken, Haast had a leg severed at the knee. Both men were taken to Charity hospital where amputations were performed and their outlook improved.
Paris reports Gambetta told DeFre ycinet that England and France arranged a coordinated intervention to prevent conflict. Troops would be scattered in southern France and sent to Egypt to join British forces. Both powers agreed on handling Cherif Pacha's fall and resisting noteholder demands. London notes Gambetta linked the new prime ministership to the intervention plan.
Four boys under twelve from Xenia Ohio ran away to head west to fight Indians. They were spotted in Cincinnati and placed in custody of Officer Martin Tighe who brought them back home. The youths were reportedly eager for border life and resisted return. Names given: Fred McCane William Eavy Charles Granevine and Warren Moore.
Fire marshal s inquiry into the Park Row disaster includes a tenant testimony about smelling burning wood on Monday evening and hot walls above a new flue. Potter and his son Frederick reportedly declined to call firemen that night. Cheever testified of heated walls observed earlier and alerted Home Insurance. The coroner has named a jury of prominent citizens to assist.
An explosion yesterday morning at the Hyatt block in Findlay Ohio started a fire that destroyed the block and damaged nearby Marvin buildings. Reported losses include J M Huber drugging 1000 insured 7000 B F Hyatt 85000 partly insured H H Metzler grocer 25000 insured O A Ebbing clothing 2000 insured and others totaling 24000.
In Jerseyville Illinois on February 3 Lewis R Phipps 30 married man living near Fielddan was attacked by a group of school children and chased to a school house at Rosedale where a fifteen year old son of Tuck Melford drew a knife and stabbed Phipps to death. The youth is in jail.
In Laport twelve barns burned Monday night by fire believed incendiary. DePauw's saw mill at Hazelton burned Monday night. Losses total about 3500 dollars with no insurance. Madison resident John Grayson aged 77 known as the old sexton died Monday night. Flora Hunter who attempted suicide at Leesville on the 21st also died Monday night. Seymour agent S B Anderson absconded leaving a newly married wife. Alfred Dickey nominated for Crawfordsville postmaster and Edward Brown for Mount Vernon. Butchers Werner and Frankle of Shelbyville arrested for pulling a calf’s meat three days old.
In Washington on February 8 Judge Cox adjourned as Charles Guiteau seeks a new trial. Scoville claims discoveries of additional grounds and affidavits, while Corkhill argues forged jury materials and seeks delay until the court disposes of current motions.

A two inch ice layer on ponds at New Albany is being cut by owners. A straw stack owned by Warren Wolf near Norristown Shelby county was blown over recently burying twenty hogs and a Jersey cow beneath and smothering them.
At the Atlanta International Cotton Exposition the Willimantic Thread Co won all medals for spool cotton and top honors for thread exhibits. Judges praised strength elasticity color variety and comprehensive display.
