Telegraph market report notes cotton firm for midlands and unchanged flour quotations with 18,000 barrels sold and 11,000 barrels receipts. Grain prices show No 2 Chicago and Milwaukee ranges, old and new corn, barley, oats steadiness, pork and lard firm, crude and refined petroleum and whisky prices listed.
A colored girl was found murdered near her residence in Cincinnati, dying at her doorstep. The event is linked to reports of a steamer fire aboard the Cospatrick, with further particulars noted.
Special dispatches from Medicia report the Cospatrick fire began at midnight on November 17 and quickly enveloped the ship. Only two boats escaped with 30 people each, the hull burned by November 19, and the vessel sank. One boat later drifted apart. the other, found by the British ship Scepter, carried five aboard, two dying before rescue near St. Helena.

In Cincinnati on December 29 a colored girl named Mary Lee, 18, was found murdered at the door of Mrs. Grant in Gamble alley near Central avenue. Her throat was cut from ear to ear after leaving a house about twenty minutes earlier to fetch a drug store. The motive is suspected jealousy. In St Louis the same date an unknown man shot and killed Hyronimus, the Norris murderer, at Latham jail, fatally wounding his accomplice Dixon, before escaping.
Lieut. Gen. Sheridan accompanied by Gen. Rucker Maj. Forsythe and Col. Sheridan left Carcaco for New Orleans last night. Authorities say the trip stems from a presidential request for a trusted source to provide truthful information and act if needed without orders. Sheridan plans to Cuba later, and will not engage in military affairs there unless required.
Washington December 29 official dispatches show the president signed a measure on November 30 authorizing the use of furbishing and other supplies for those made destitute by the grasshopper plague in Kansas and Nebraska, with congress to provide future approval. Senator Hitchcock's relief bill for affected persons is expected to pass.
A four year old child was abandoned at a house in Black River Falia by a veiled woman. The child matches descriptions and pictures of Charley Ross. A photograph has been sent to Philadelphia for identification.
New Year, Dec 28. Dr Charles De Moon and his brother are arrested charged with murdering an illegitimate child of the doctor. The mother responsible for the birth is also in custody. Dec 29. further reports from Borno show police inspection pending.
