Deepen Upton Test Well Reaches Pumping Stage
The Upton County test well in section 45, block H, on the rail road survey area, was deepened six more feet to 2196 feet. Oil increased to warrant pumping, and the well was placed on the pump Wednesday with I T Pryor Jr of Fort Stockton observing. He noted a rate of seven barrels per hour. The site lies across the Pecos River about twelve miles northeast of Cirvin, signaling Pecos County development potential.

Owners suffer wounds in dog fight near Sheffield
Grief Murray and Mrs Dunlap of Sheffield sustained painful injuries Sunday while trying to separate their bulldog from a rival. Murray was bitten on the right thumb four times, and Dunlap lost the first joint of her left index finger with a severe second finger cut. The Pioneer could not confirm dog casualties but both fighters were likely worse for the encounter. They were brought to Fort Stockton Sunday afternoon for treatment.
