District Judge Patterson Dies Tuesday in Alpine
C. E. Patterson 65 longtime 83rd District Court judge in Alpine died of a heart attack Tuesday at his home. He had served since August 1954 and his funeral is set for 4 p.m. at Alpine First Baptist Church with burial in Marfa. he lived in Alpine since 1931 and had been Brewster County attorney.

Temperatures topped 100 degrees every day for a week at KFST radio weather station. Highs reached 104 for three days, 103 on Sunday, and 105 on Monday and Tuesday with lows from 67 to 70. Rainfall remains minimal at 4.24 inches for the year.

One-Car Crash Kills Fort Stockton Driver James Fortenberry
James O. Fortenberry 56 of Fort Stockton died about 10 40 a m Tuesday from injuries after his late model car hit a road sign near U S 290 west of the city. He was a Firestone Tire Testing Center driver since 1959 and had received a ten year safe driving award in 1971. Funeral services were set for 10 a m Thursday at First United Methodist Church with burial in East Hill Cemetery. An autopsy was ordered to determine if injuries caused his death.

Commissioners Study Postage Meter Use and Easement Change
Pecos County commissioners met in the county courtroom and approved a study by the county judge and auditor to compare costs of office stamps versus a central postage meter. Maria Torres 70 of Sanderson died Saturday at Fort Stockton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mass was said Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph's Stockton Funeral Home. Born November 11 1901 in Mexico she moved to Sanderson in 1925 from Shafter. Survived by two sons Pablo Jr. and Robert. six daughters Felix Espanilla Enedina Gonzales Maria Vega Grace Wilkins Alicia Huard Elena Leiber. two stepdaughters Teresa Ramirez Luz Bustamante. two brothers Gavino Santiago Villa. 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Family Planning Clinic To Be Set Up Here
Fort Stockton will host a Pecos County family planning clinic funded by Permian Basin Planned Parenthood Inc. A $16,000 grant from the Texas Office of Economic Opportunity will support the project with a four to one in kind match from local entities. An outreach worker will start in July and the first clinic, in August, will use the former nurses residence beside Memorial Hospital for monthly counseling sessions.
