Cable Owner Proposes PBS Satellite Receiving for Fort Stockton ISD
Joe Harris of Central Communications offered FSISD a plan to request FCC permission for a PBS receiving station at the district. The setup would require two dishes and an $8.50 monthly per subscriber fee plus $9 for HBO, with Stockton Cable TV to maintain the system. Harris said PBS would be non profit while the cable owner would bill the district. Public meeting canceled due to Harris schedule. KERA-TV remains the only educational station serving Fort Stockton.

West Texas counties Pecos Edwards and Reeves were designated eligible for SBA disaster relief after County Commissioners approved an application on May 8. Drought damaged crops and livestock prompted farm relief with loans for crop damage and economic hardship available until October 11 and December 11 respectively. Bruce Wilson a former Pecos County deputy with ten years service is hired as Chief Deputy on June 12. He began work January 15, 1968 as a Cavanosa deputy, resigned May 8 after finishing third in a sheriff race, and served at Cavanosa until August 1973 when named Imperial deputy. He has law enforcement certification after 240 training hours and lives in Imperial with his wife Martha and four stepchildren.
