Fort Stockton’s Old Fort Cemetery testifies to a long-vanished era. Many headstones bear names and dates, including soldiers from Company G of the Third US Cavalry and Company P of the 16th US Infantry, with a lone pyramid marker and poignant epitaphs. Remains from the nearby St. Gall burial ground were moved to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

Meningitis Named Cause of Infant Death in Fort Stockton
One year old Carol Dean King, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert B King, of Fort Stockton, died Monday after being rushed to Odessa Medical Center Hospital. An Odessa pathologist said autopsy results were not complete but diagnosed meningitis when the child was brought to the hospital. The case appears to be isolated.
