About eighty youths are expected to enroll in the annual summer conference of the Presbyterian churches of El Paso Presbytery. The event opens at 5 pm Friday July 5 with trained leaders directing study and recreation.
The Methodist church choir will perform the Sunday morning program with Mrs. F A Stubblefield directing after the opening. The night service will be led by the church youth group with Miss Catherine Frederick guiding the program. Readings include scripture by Miss Beth Brown and talks by Fritz McDonald.
A dozen or more Fort Stockton Boy Scouts depart Sunday under Scout master J. F. Dasven for a week at Camp Louis Farr in Merizon. It marks Fort Stockton’s first camp representation in years with Concho Valley council youths spending a week each in June at Yates Hall named for Ira G. Yates.
A 1900 document found by Judge O W Williams recalls a Pecos County business, a Shetland pony ranch started by K H Burnett with over 100 stock animals. The lease transfers from Burnett to Stallings in Oak Cliff, then to E G and W F Tatum who moved it to Midland before it shut down. Some ponies were raised and sold.
A June window allows delinquent taxes from 1919 to 1933 with a five percent penalty and one dollar costs for 1919 to 1930. Beginning July 1, 1935 penalties rise monthly by half a percent per month, with specific rates for 1984, 1933, 1932, 1931, 1930, and 1929 taxes, per Attorney General ruling on House Bills 6 and 7 from the 43rd Legislature.
Dr. M. E. Barrett was named Worshipful Master of the Fort Stockton Lodge for the coming year, after serving as Senior Warden. J. Harrison Dyche was advanced to Senior Warden and W. G. Fielder elected Junior Warden. Other officers named include Harry Harris secretary and S. S. Harris treasurer.
Lt. E. O. Rigsbee Jr. accompanied by his sister Mrs. Frank Stephenson left Sunday for California with stops at Carlsbad Cavern Grand Canyon and Sequoia National Park. He will report for duty in the Naval Aircraft Battle Fleet at Coronado on June 10 after completing training at Pensacola Florida on May 26.
Mr and Mrs James E Rigsbee and son Jimmie of Iraan spent the weekend with Rigsbees parents Mr and Mrs E O Rigsbee.
County officials from Pecos and other Texas counties will meet in Mineral Wells with the Texas Highway Commission and federal authorities to seek larger Works Progress relief grants aimed at lasting road improvements. The meeting follows a call by Judge E L Pitts and includes plans to address Highway 67 and Texarkana to Presidio route gaps. Heavy rains in Pecos delayed Highway 27 topping contracts, highlighting the need for larger drainage structures and updated plans.
Fort Stockton Sons Club plans a chicken barbecue and ladies night on June 27 to install new officers. The event replaces the weekly luncheon. Elbert Boatman chairs the arrangements with C. E. Casebier W. C. Barnett and J. A. Frederick as members. H. L. Winfield applauds the honor. Rooney proposes stocking county park streams with catfish, with Blaydes Dyche and Butz to study feasibility.
City officials announce enforcement of sanitation ordinances prohibiting open toilets and inadequate cesspools and septic tanks. Residents near the new sewer lines must connect, with a reasonable adjustment period before charges are filed to ensure compliance.
The Fort Stockton community will host a series of explanatory lectures by Rev. Dr. Ledwig at the Catholic Church near the courthouse starting Sunday June 9 and running each night through Friday June 14 at 8 pm. Ledwig, a former Navy lieutenant and chaplain, brings extensive academic and Legion credentials and will cover topics from loyalty to church truth in six sessions.
New Orleans June 4. Fifth Circuit affirms inter locutory injunction against John H. Tyler of Austin and others including Gov. James V. Allred and J H Walker to restrain patent pursuit on oil lands. Stanolind Oil and Shell Petroleum requested writs to avoid patent litigation that could affect their property. Annie Harvey and son visit Dallas relatives this week.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals will hear the appeal of Earl Leverich convicted months ago in Pecos County on state liquor law violations. Hart Johnson and Travers Crumpton will depart Tuesday for Austin for the session.
Fort Stockton post office earnings show limited growth from May last year despite flood concerns. April receipts rose from 1039.60 to 1179.39 and May 1935 ahead of 1934 by 165.74, with box rents boosting April totals.
Fort Stockton Boy Scouts plan a Carlsbad Caverns overnight trip plus a Black River camp in New Mexico. All local troop members may qualify by attending three of four meetings before July 5 and 6. sickness is the only acceptable absence.
Mrs. Roy Rhinehart twenty three of Royalty sustained a brain concussion a scalp wound a fractured collar bone and fractured ribs when she was thrown through the windshield of a Chevrolet during a return trip to Royalty five miles north of Fort Stockton. Miss Lostell Collum and two other occupants suffered minor injuries.
Gov. James V. Alfred granted a full pardon and restoration of citizenship to Will Luman, convicted in 1928 of cattle theft in Pecos County with a three year sentence. A parallel murder charge in Dawson County in 1928 also resulted in a served sentence.
An intense Thursday shower with hail and high winds drenched Fort Stockton while rain persisted across West Texas. Pecos County saw the heaviest weekend fall with McCamey hit Tuesday night by hail and strong winds causing property damage but no reported fatalities. Communication lines failed, boosting rumors amid limited information as two areas endured torrential rainfall.
Fort Stockton reports detail sheep losses in Glass Mountain and Joe Montgomery country as tanks fill with drifted hail leaves and dirt. Sheep mistook the debris for solid ground and drowned in the icy slush.

Travelers were stranded near Monument draw as low lands flooded. a Mexican crew helped move a car to safety. Many sheep drowned or chilled. ranchers report rapid forage growth as rains persist.
Miss Zelma Nations and Alvin Fulton married Monday afternoon at the Baptist church parsonage with Rev. S F Marsh officiating. Mrs Fulton is the daughter of Mr and Mrs N M Nations and a Fort Stockton High School graduate of 1935. They will live on a ranch where Fulton works.
