Car Fire on Sanderson Highway Destroys All Passengers’ Clothes
A Falcon car on US 285 sixteen miles southeast of Fort Stockton caught fire Friday night when a brake drum overheated. The right rear tire burned, clothing of all seven passengers from Hidalgo near McAllen was destroyed, and personal possessions were lost. Passers-by aided two men as fire grew, gasoline tank danger forced halting efforts. Family members were taken to Fort Stockton for the night. Community Action Agency aid sought for clothing for two men, one woman, two boys, and two girls. The father said the family would press on to Idaho once reporting the incident to Texas Highway Patrolmen Ken Menninger and Larry Gibbs.

Butz Sells Bank Stock and Retires From Pecos County State Bank
Karl Butz, longtime officer and chair of the Pecos County State Bank, sold his stock to remaining directors and resigned.
