Fort Stockton will host a Christmas West Of The Pecos open house at Annie Riggs Memorial Museum from 2 to 5 p.m. December 10 with refreshments in the old hotel dining room. In regional sports, Fort Stockton, New Mexico Military Institute, Loving ton, Andrews, Hobbs and Monahans swim teams compete in a two day meet at Sam. Friday features diving prelims and swim prelims. finals start Saturday at 11 a.m. Awards include trophies for top three in girls and boys divisions, with plaques through third and ribbons for fourth to twelfth place. Admission is free.

Texas to award bid to fill interstate gap west of Fort Stockton
The Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation will open bids on 19.5 miles of Interstate 10 east of Balmorhea in Austin on December 14. The federal designation as an essential gap was due to the Surface Transportation Act, with about 13 miles in Pecos County. The project, costing $14 million and slated for 540 working days, will connect the existing four lane segment to the west.
