Rains drenched Pecos County and nearby regions Wednesday and night, improving the range but not aiding farmers as cotton and alfalfa crops still needed sun. Fort Stockton measured 0.85 inches of rain per Weather Observer H. H. Butz.
Miss Helen Watson was declared the ring contest winner, the two week event held by a traveling medicine show, with the report covering East Hill Cemetery Association finances from July 1 1924 to August 18 1925.
Members meet at the courthouse and dissolve the Fort Stockton Country Club to refund pro rata funds. A new Fort Stockton Fishing and Hunting Club will preserve lake and hunting rights with temporary chairman H L Winfield and a committee led by W P Rooney to transfer the lease and draft reorganization plans.
The Parent-Teacher Association will host an ice cream social on the court house lawn next Thursday evening, September 3. The public is cordially invited to attend and join the event.
A quiet week in Pecos County oil. Adams Oil Company of Fort Worth sold Pecos properties near a wild cat test north of Fort Stockton to a Boston buyer. Drilling continues on multiple wells including Gulf Production Company on White Baker ranch and Dixie Oil on Sherbino ranch. Western Development speeds drilling below 200 feet.

At a Tuesday City Council meeting the tax rate was levied as before, set at one dollar fifty cents per one hundred dollars of valuation. The article adds a wry note that no salve exists for the itch for office.
A. F. Huelster picked the season's first cotton bale from his Block One irrigated farm in Pecos County. Ginning was delayed because the gin was not yet ready, delaying delivery until a later date. Huelster is a new farmer who purchased his farm last spring.
The Parent-Teachers Association calls for immediate fifty cent memberships to support public schools and fund the opening and maintenance of the school cafeteria. Members should send or give the money to treasurer Mrs James Rooney without waiting for further postage solicitations.
Sheriff D. S. Barker arrested Monday a Mexican bootlegger in Leon Valley. About one gallon of whiskey was recovered and a copper wire used for distilling purposes, but the still was not found. At an examining trial before Judge Howell Johnson, the defendant Nicolas Rodriguez was allowed bail in the sum of 150 dollars, but failing to make bond he was remanded to jail.
County Attorney Joe G Montague was seen back in town last week driving a new Moon roadster at Pase. Pioneer commends his continued diligent work and public service.
Two Stockton citizens are seriously burned after a blaze destroys the Landon hotel built in 1902 on the Fort Concho site. Fire at 1 30 p m yesterday left the building a total loss with damages estimated at 150000 to 125000. S S Harris and John M Billings of Fort Stockton suffered severe burns while escaping through flames from a third floor room. Mrs Landon was among earlier fire victims in a prior structure on the same site. Only sixty seconds stood between the men and death in the inferno.
This week irrigated cotton fields faced a leaf worm outbreak, prompting arsenic use. Farmers acted quickly to control the pest and anticipate another poison application after Wednesday's rain. Harvesting has begun but full picking will take about ten days. Gin renovations stall due to missing machinery. Russia reports 529000 total armed forces with 32006 in navy.
