A long poem fragment praises England and its queen with imagery of laurels and sunset. The piece envisions a valentine to the poet laureate and invokes Arthurian halls and royal admiration.
A sermon preached February 12, 1860 at the Congregational Church in Fort Atkinson urges young women to avoid familiarities with unprincipled men. It argues women should demand virtuous husbands, warn of ruined reputations, and call for equal scrutiny of men's conduct and rights in social association and marriage.
An exhortation from Henzelmann urges the poor young man to forego fraud and flattery, endure hardship, and rely on virtue for daily bread. He counsels reverent self-reliance and warns against chasing wealth through disloyalty, even if others prosper by deceit. If one remains true and unblemished, he says, blessings come and life ends in grace.
