The school board voted unanimously to seek a tax referendum to support the educational fund, citing reduced state aid and rising costs. Details will be decided at the Oct. 14 meeting with attorney Paul Montino and district officials.
Forest Park village council approves Carl Rieke Construction for 42100 and Belco 1686 and Thiesse Plumbing 6310 and AABS Electric 1456 for a public works garage addition at Hannah and 15th. Police sergeant post denied for lack of second. betting services and gambling ordinance amendments deferred for attorney review. Grants sought include 150000 redevelopment funds and 29000 housing inspector shared by Forest Park River Forest. Zoning change for 940 Ferdinand basement apartment denied due to low ceilings and congested substandard living.
The board considered a policy for nonprofit groups to use the 66 passenger district bus but postponed a final fee schedule until insurance questions are resolved. Superintendent Arthur Jones proposed a 41 dollar per trip insurance fee which some members called excessive. Board member Earl Flight urged not to enter the bus rental market or compete with private companies. The board designated three head teachers Margie Martin Grant White School Barbara Rupp Betsy Ross School Pat Donnelly Garfield School to act in absence of principals. They approved using district bus for River Forest District 90 students after preschool practice as part of ongoing district cooperation and joint supply purchases.
U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde fights claims by opponent Marilyn D. Clancy that Franklin Park pays him over forty four thousand dollars yearly in legal fees. Hyde says the figure refers to 1974 and that most work now goes to his partner Dowdle.
The Forest Park Park District debates trimming winter and spring sessions to avoid duplication with the school district, citing financial strains from salaries and uncertain liability insurance. Board plans a special budget meeting and considers consolidating pool duties while awaiting a school tax referendum and funding options.
The Forest Park Traffic and Safety Commission reports excellent cooperation from the police after three August recommendations were promptly acted on. Measures include marking hydrants, repainting hydrant zones, lowering Stop for Pedestrians signs, and stepped enforcement of the 25 mph limit on Randolph Street to curb speeding.
State Representative Ted E. Leverenz D 5th vows a positive campaign stressing full time service and an accessible district office at 8945 Grand Ave River Grove. He cites unemployment benefits delays and traveling office efforts, plus ethics education and tax disclosure, as campaign themes.
