Garfield talent program shows student talents beyond academics
Garfield Elementary School models the Illinois state Talents Unlimited program in Forest Park School District 91. The approach, run by Edwin Phillips and counselor Carmen Sanders, teaches productive thinking, forecasting and communication to kindergartners through grade levels. Students brainstorm solutions, categorize fruit, and imagine needs for a two year old, highlighting thinking skills alongside academic tests. Calvin W Taylor, originator, argues multiple talents raise higher percentages of students above average.
