Members of the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce and other golfers teed off this morning at Nordic Hills Country Club Itasca. Participants paid 23 dollars for the outing and 4 full courses dinner to be served that evening with golfing awards and duo prizes set for presentation at dinner.
Patrick Michael Enright of 234 Elgin Ave earned spring semester academic honors at Evangel College Springfield Missouri where he studies psychology as a freshman. Gail Rose Bacon of Edwardsville Illinois made the Dean's List at Southern Illinois University with 1 627 honorees. Scott Crane son of Forest Park Police Chief Drane was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Illinois Urbana campus.
The Friends of the Forest Park Library present weekly July screenings in the east meeting room at 7555 W. Jackson Blvd. The programs start at 7:45 p.m. and are free. On July 13 two films explore Far Eastern life Hong Kong Horizons and Korean Spring. July 20 features Cattle Ranch and The Thoroughbred about cowboy work and horse training. The finale examines the Columbia River’s transformation in Ghosts of a River.
The Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County launches an eight week emergency program to help poor working poor and elderly pay utility and fuel bills. Grants up to 250 dollars target households below federal income limits with Proviso Township residents filing at Proviso Lyons Council for Community Action in Bellwood. Call 344-7700 for details.
The Forest Park Public Library at 7555 W Jackson Blvd offers a free copy of the Illinois Camping Guide from the Illinois Division of Tourism. The brochure lists registered camping facilities, campground locations, phone numbers, and camping costs. Call 366-2530 for information.
Village attorney Edward O'Shea filed an answer Friday July 8 defending Forest Park Village Council refusal to fill a commissioner vacancy. The suit seeks a special election to fill the post after Santo Rizzo became mayor last March replacing the late Howard Mohr. William H. Shelley represents Concerned Citizens of Forest Park and others alleging violation of Illinois law Chapter 24 Section 4-3-4.
Marilyn D. Clancy, after losing the 6th District race, shifts to Oak Park and national education work. She helps with NPAs anti violence on television, teaches bargaining in education, and runs workshops from Oak Park to New Orleans and Berkeley. Clancy also aids local economic groups and remains active in women’s political circles and advocacy groups.
Forest Park may hire a consultant to study Madison Street and Roosevelt Road for a $140000 federal community development grant aimed at revitalizing the village shopping area. Success hinges on merchant council cooperation, local investment, and clear goals amid broader suburban and city efforts.
