Mayor Mohr is expected to propose a $2,000 across the board raise for patrolmen through lieutenant, with base pay rising to 10,605.50 and top patrolman pay at 14,703. Sergeants would earn 16,155 and lieutenants 17,853.92 as negotiations continue with other village departments and unions.
The Forest Park Park District may terminate three of its eight park police. At a meeting, Police Commissioner Gary Fink was authorized to take any necessary action to correct conduct described as employees not doing their jobs. Board President John Farrell backed Fink’s authority, while noting reviews will continue after the summer season.
Forest Park junior high school stage and jazz band led by Mike Locigno earns first place at the Illinois State Fair despite being among the smallest entries. The 14 member group impressed judges with polished performances of A Taste of Honey and The Pink Panther, traveling to Springfield for a fun but educational trip. The band will be honored at the Forest Park Village Board meeting with a read aloud resolution.
The Forest Park Environmental Commission ends door-to-door pickups. Residents may drop off newspapers at St. Bernadine's parking lot 7230 Harrison St on Saturday Aug 31 and Sunday Sept 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A paper truck will collect. Bundling and tying speeds the effort. The drive has funded $1,000 for the new Recreation center.
The Triton college board nears a decision on whether tenured economics teacher Daniel Barszcz should be fired after lawyers for both sides wrapped concluding arguments. The board must weigh about 65 exhibits and 1,000 pages of testimony before ruling within two weeks.
