The C T A allocates 5 655 000 for a Des Plaines avenue transit terminal with a modern station, platforms and park N ride facilities. The project aims to connect buses autos and trains but construction dates remain unavailable.
Forest Park Village Council approved a new overnight street parking ordinance boosting fines from 2 to 5 dollars if paid within 14 days and to 10 dollars after 14 days or at the warrant stage. The measure aims to curb rising enforcement costs and deter repeated violations. The ordinance takes effect immediately.
Forest Lions Club urges residents age 36 and over to a free glaucoma screening October 4 and 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Forest Park. A mobile unit staffed by the Minor Society for the Prevention of Blindness will be at Madison Street locations 7440 to 7342 to find unseen glaucoma cases.
Carl Schwebl of Forest Park, 157 Christmas Seal Chairman, heads a four year campaign educating the public on air pollution and respiratory disease. He notes the goal of 1 175 000 dollars funds control programs, research, and anti pollutions efforts while highlighting his own quit smoking on January 1st. He serves on the Oak Park Real Estate Board and Kiwanis, with village officials aiding the campaign.
A three day Oktoberfest in Forest Park drew an estimated 25 000 plus attendees across September 24 25 and 26. A large parade through town delighted crowds while the beer garden rides and games offered ample family entertainment. Local groups credited President Jim Crowley and his committee for a record festival with prize winners from VFW 7181 and American Legion among those honored.
Commissioner James Sansone and Mayor Howard Mohr unveil 22 new trash containers in the business district as part of ongoing clean-up efforts. The units carry a Dont be a Litterbug message, feature removable nets, and will be regularly serviced, though one container has already been stolen.
