Oktoberfest weekend opens with 22 local groups participating in a three day celebration featuring German foods rides games and live music including traditional dancing. Committees spent three months organizing a parade Sunday and entertainment for all ages.
The 1810 Munich wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese started a festival later named Oktoberfest held annually at the Theresienwiese. Forest Park hosts a three day, growing Oktoberfest with months of planning by the steering and other committees and 19 participating organizations. It remains a major carnival with tents dances music and food. A hand rubbed varnish for west ern wood paneling is recommended for finish.
The LC F of St Bernardines Church invites all members to its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Members are urged to attend to help ensure a successful event on Saturday October 18 at 7 p.m. in the school hall.
The Kiwanis Club of Forest Park held a Sept 17 ceremony to install officers for 1969 1970. New President James Marcantonio and officers William Grieve Carl Schwebl Elmer Lussow Robert Linker were introduced by Charles Lelivelt. Recovery hoped for retiring President Herman Meier.
The Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Columbus Council 1278 hosts a yard sale on Thursday October 2 at 815 Marengo. It offers bargains on wearing apparel household items and groovy treasures for women girls men and boys. The Pick Up Committee has gathered a grand assortment of items.
Steven Antonelli a freshman at Aurora College will portray the grocer in Rhinoceros production on October 10 and 12. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Antonelli of 947 Elgin merchandise. They invite donations for the sale call 366 0544 or 366 3733.
The Second Annual Grand Knight Moravelli Memorial Essay Contest for 8th grade students at St Bernardine School Elgin Harrison St Forest Plc runs Sept Mth to Oct 13. Entries are 500 words on How important is a Catholic High School Education to me. Winners receive a $25 savings bond and a certificate in November.
The Monday meeting focused on playground use amid neighbor complaints. A sign by Chief Ed Ziebell barred children over 12 from playing, citing four neighbor complaints about hard balls and property damage near 906 to 1111 Ferdinand and 7342 Randolph. The mayor noted school board jurisdiction and possible fence plans while residents urged constructive play and broader age access.
