Forest Park hosts its annual Oktoberfest from September 24 to 26. The event features rides for kids, dancing under the beer tent with the Polidors, game booths for teens, and daily food and refreshments. Attendees celebrate togetherness warmth and festive German spirit.
Veterans from the west and Southwest suburbs can meet company representatives at a two day job fair sponsored by the Illinois State Employment Service. The event runs September 29 and 30 from 1 to 8 pm at the United States Postal Facility on 7500 West Roosevelt Road Forest Park with free admission. Interview appointments, applications, and career information will be available from participating employers.
Forest Lions Club announces a free mobile glaucoma screening in Forest Park on October 4 and 5 from 6 to 9 PM. The Clinton Society for the Prevention of Blindness unit will be at 7340 Madison Street to test residents aged 36 and over, aiming to detect unknown glaucoma cases early.
State Senator Howard R. Mohr accepted an invitation from President Richard M. Nixon to attend the White House Conference on Aging in Washington from November 28 to December 2, 1971. Mohr said he plans to participate fully and focus on improving senior citizens’ treatment and involvement in society.
Boy falls seven stories and survives as city officials plan safety actions. Commissioner Rizzo says he will meet the building owner Tuesday to arrange boarding up entrances and exits to prevent a repeat incident.
Craig Pipkin seven of 7545 Jackson fell seventy five feet from an abandoned grain elevator tower as George Pease four of Jackson Boulevard watched. Rescue by Forest Park firemen and police succeeded. Pipkin underwent surgery for multiple injuries and was listed as satisfactory. The towers, once part of Acme Feeds Company, remain landmark yet posed dangers.
