Forest Park village council voted at a special meeting to continue Federal Rent Controls until June 30 1951 citing a rental housing shortage. The resolution notes controls may be rescinded if housing improves and actions align with state and federal provisions before December 31 1950 and June 30 1951 deadlines.
Twenty metal enamel signs reading Children At Play will be placed at strategic points in the village within two weeks. Forest Park Kiwanis club donates the warning signs and posts to the local Recreation board. The Boys and Girls committee sponsors include Fred Rose chairman with Ed Anderson Ray Hanson Homer Bale Bob Andre Walter Blasius William McKenzie and Adolph Starck.
A fire at 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6 destroyed the garage at 1434 Circle, owned by Harry Herman of the Charcoal Broiler, and damaged three neighboring garages. The blaze, started by suspected late night paper sparks, fully consumed the garage and its contents. The adjacent structures at 1432 Circle and two garages across the alley were scorched. Firefighters took about an hour to control the flames.
A fire caused fumes to damage a cement yard, concrete forms, and part of a garage owned by Bert Carey, a cement contractor at 1347 Clyde. The blaze began Saturday September 2 from undetermined causes and was extinguished quickly by Forest Park firefighters.
Curtis Jacobs eight years old of 604 Circle received a laceration on the top of his head when struck by a rock thrown by another boy during play. The notice notes the adoption by the Council of Forest Park on August this year 1850.
Miss Dorothy Carol Angell, daughter of Mr and Mrs W H Angell, 900 Marengo Ave, among 21 student nurses capped August 25 by Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Chicago. Candlelight ceremony marked six months of training and admission to the program.
Forest Park Boy Scouts announce two back to back paper drives to fund troop activities. First drive covers north side Sept 16, second Sept 23 spans Harlem to Des Plaines. Residents asked to place papers at curbs. scouts will collect or remove if needed. Committee chairs Walter Blasius Fred Hose and James A Harmon oversee operations with listed troop leaders and units across Forest Park.
Henry Penner of 7209 Washington was struck when a car driven by Robert Jenkins exited an alley between Harleme and Higin at Randolph and struck him. Jenkins of Chicago admits fault.
E. G. Keeley, 1019 Harlem, suffered first and second degree burns when the gasoline used for a blow torch to remove paint exploded. Neighbors assisted, neighbors report. The article notes a fire department response and describes hotel style accommodations with 300 student nurses, 15 floors, lounges, kitchens, classrooms, recreation rooms, libraries, and lighting upgrades.
Proviso Township high School prepares a twelve week fall term at the library, with classes meeting Monday to Wednesday evenings from 7 30 to 9 30 starting September 20. New courses include home maintenance paper and painting better parenthood Red Cross home nursing and more.
The Perpetual Help Mothers' club of St Bernardine church will hold the first meeting of the 1950 61 season on Wednesday evening September 13 at 8 pm in the school hall. Former members will be welcomed and mothers of new pupils invited. The school nurse will be introduced and give an address of interest. Refreshments served by Mrs Gertrude Powers and committee.
