Parish Honors Pastor Wagener at St Bernardine’s Hall

More than 1000 guests including parishioners village officials and townsfolk gathered at St Bernardine’s school hall to honor Right Reverend Monsignor John T Wagener whose 32 years of priesthood were celebrated after a signal honor from Rome A blue canopy autumn flowers and a cake shaped like a missal framed the tribute under Sal Campagna’s chairmanship and a program of vocal solos.

Alumni Plan Fund Drive for Valparaiso Fieldhouse

Alumni of Valparaiso University resolved to raise funds for a field house on the new 118 acre campus. Vernon W. Reich announced the plan as he retired as alumni association president and handed duties to Gilbert W. Krause at the homecoming meeting. Ted Kretzmann and Margaret Knoll were elected vice president and secretary treasurer. Anniversary reunions for classes 1899 1909 1934 and 1944 were held during the weekend. Dr. O P Kretzmann led the homecoming parade after returning from Asia Pacific duty with the Army Navy and Air Forces.

Forest Park Opens Education Week Open House

Forest Park schools will host an open house on Wednesday November 7 from 7 to 9 p.m as part of American Education Week observed nationwide November 6 to 12. Staff urge all parents to visit their children's teachers to see class demonstrations and procedures and have questions answered.

Gardener Finds Lost Diamond Ring in Backyard

Frank Doudera of 7416 Madison, Forest Park, recovered a one carat diamond ring after two years missing from his garden. A longtime jeweler recently retired from Chicago area work, he plans to devote time to gardening as his chief hobby.

Basketball Meet to Discuss Forest Park Season

A basketball meeting is set for Wednesday November 2 at 7 30 in the village hall to discuss rules and schedules for the coming season. The event is sponsored by Forest Park.

Veronica Stevens to speak at Forest Park Woman’s Club

Mrs. Veronica R. Stevens, noted wood carver, will display her figurines at the Forest Park Woman’s Club on Friday October 24 at 2 PM in the Park Administration building. She began whistling after a back injury and has since carved about 6000 figurines found across the United States.

Handicraft Classes Start At Forest Park

Forest Park Recreation board resumes handicraft classes beginning Wednesday November 2. Sessions run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each week in the Park Administration building basement. Open to school children aged 9 to 14. The article notes early plywood factories were built in Russia in the 1870s.

The 432nd anniversary of Martin Luther posting his theses will be marked at St John’s Church next Sunday. Local Republicans Endorse Erickson at Captain's Dinner

Proviso township Republicans endorsed William N. Erickson for president at their annual captain's dinner, marking the first county unit to pledge support for his reelection. Committeeman James G. Jamieson urged active campaigning as Republican women cleared away after a vaudeville act by Tom McCarthy Jr and Fred Zimmerman.

National Girl Scout Week Begins With Church Attendance

National Girl Scout Week runs from October 30 to November 4 with nationwide church attendance in uniform on Sunday October 30. Forest Park Girl Scouts will join services, and an afternoon program at Field-Stevens-Kun Auditorium honors Juliette Low with speaker Katherine Miller. Parents and volunteers are invited to attend and a Forest Theatre display runs all week.
