James McHugh Construction Co of Chicago emerged as apparent low bidder at 5,500,000 for a new CTA terminal and related facilities on Des Plaines Avenue in Forest Park. Bids opened September 28 with acceptance within 60 days and 540-day completion after acceptance. Second bid by Pora Construction Co at 5,677,000.
The Forest Park Historical Society plans its second annual meeting on Sunday October 10 at 2 PM in the east meeting room of the Forest Park Public Library. Highlights include an exhibit Our Schools Past and Present featuring memorabilia from village schools and a Montes sori Montessori display with photos loaned by Virginia Fleege. Dawn DeBeers will answer questions and a short business meeting with officer elections and a constitutional amendment will follow. A film on local history, refreshments, and a door prize are planned.
Forest Park Fire Department toured local schools from October 3 to 9 with their equipment to teach children fire safety. At Grant-White School members explained gear operation and handed out emergency reminders to students.
Turf Center Inc tested Forest Park authority by attempting to act as a bet messenger service at 7601 C Madison St. Detectives Archambault and Bachman issued a citation to James Hassett of Melrose Park for operating without a license after a bet was accepted. The ordinance banning bet messengers was not invoked, and Turf Center faces a local court appearance on November 8.
Forest Park Village Council reschedules its regular meeting to Tuesday evening October 12 at 7 pm. They will consider a $150000 Cook County CBD development grant and policy setup for its use, plus hiring a full time chamber director and grant subsidy, with up to 15,000 for admin. Salary proposals may follow and the board will choose a public works superintendent from many applications.
