Mrs Shepard Heads State Eastern Star in Illinois

Madeleine M. Shepard of Forest Park has been elected Worthy Grand Matron of the Illinois Eastern Star. She was installed at Medinah Temple in Chicago. A longtime community volunteer, she has trained 95 grand lecturers since 1952 and held multiple grand chapter posts including Grand Representative of Quebec. She also engages in the Forest Park Women’s Club and related orders.

William Schwedler Accepted as Art Instructor at Tyler School

William Schwedler of 132 Des Plaines has been accepted to the Tyler School of Art at Temple University Philadelphia as instructor of drawing and painting starting September 1. He is Proviso East High School class of 1960 graduate with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the Pratt Institute of New York.

Final Day To Register For Nov and 21 Year Olds Eligible

Local residents are urged to register by Tuesday for the November 3 election. Chicago and suburban precincts will open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for those not yet registered. Township Clerk Fred Rosa notes eligibility requires 21 by election day and residence in Minols 1 year Cook County 90 days and local precinct 30 days as of the election. People who have changed address or name must re register.

Octoberfest Brings Food Music and Slap Dancers to Forest Park

Forest Park hosts a German heritage festival starting Monday with a week of local store savings and a Friday Beer Garden at Madison and Hannah. Highlights include a German band, 60 voice Harlem Male Chorus Daemenchor, an authentic Umpa band in Lederhosen, and Holzhacker Schuh Plattler slap dancers.

Kindergarten Films Sent to Germany from St John

Wednesday was movie day at St John Kindergarten for the afternoon class. James Barth recorded the class in learning activities for a 30 minute film on kindergarten history to be produced by Matthias Film Gesellschaft in Stuttgart. Betty Barth of Cameo Productions visited to plan shots with Principal Donald Behnken and Kindergarten teacher Lois Lobman.
