Postmaster Henry Maiworm and Mrs Maiworm attended the national convention of postmasters in Indianapolis last week. He was among few local postmasters present besides Chicago’s leader. The event featured remarks by Postmaster General Harry New and others from post office departments. Maiworm said the meeting served as a night school for post office outlets. He also spoke at a Kiwanis Club dinner in Indianapolis about the reception at Forest Park Kiwanis.

Barr and Collins, a major coal and lumber firm north of the village, are tearing down decades old sheds to erect modern lumber yards. New sheds will hold nearly as much lumber in half the ground space and will include 40,000 feet of lumber storage. The yard fronts stretch 4,000 feet on Brown and Wrinkley avenues with expanded work areas and upgraded access. The company, started in 1892 on Lake Street, operates nine trucks, about sixteen horses, and employs 65. Barr and Collins ships lumber from multiple states and emphasizes new uses of lumber and substituted materials paving the way for efficiency.

Proviso High Library Expands to Aid Students
Proviso High School library now occupies a large west-side second-floor space, enlarged this summer to meet demand. It seats 108 readers, adds a book truck in the dictionary stand, extra tables and chairs, and employs two librarians and student helpers. Attendance and circulation show strong use, with 8,587 pupils spending at least one period in the library over two months last spring.

George Stover Mail Carrier Victim Of Peculiar Accident
George Stover of 142 Belvidere Street, a mail carrier in the village’s northwest, was waiting for a passing car when a nail pierced his knee. A small wire nail about two inches long entered through the knee to a quarter inch depth, causing pain and three days of home rest before attempting further route work. Doctors monitored for infection as a precaution.
