Forest Park Skating Rink plans an opening this Saturday as Park Superintendent Earl Whelpley notes weather will determine start. Admission remains 25 cents for children and 50 cents for adults per two hours, with weekend increases. Improvements planned include the tank and concession department.
Marshall Quandt of Forest Park seeks the GOP Township Committeeman post in April. Proviso Township Regular GOP Party endorsed him at a meeting led by District Leader Robert Larson of Westchester who praised Quandt as most entitled to the endorsement. Petitions are circulating.
The debate features Lady Wick Harold Williamson and address 7417 Madigan 436 Circle. Proviso competes with Lincoln Way High of New Lenox on WBAM TV at 2 30 p m December 2 in a program asking if union membership should be optional for employment in Illinois.
Internationally famed organist Virgil Fox appears in a Sunday 8 pm recital at St John Lutheran Church. Fox has played in major European and U.S. cities, been chosen as soloist for the American Guild of Organists conventions, and released recordings with RCA Victor and Capitol. A free will offering will be received. tickets are not required.
Santa Claus opens the forest park Christmas season on Saturday December 2 at 9 a.m. arriving from the North Pole. He will travel by reindeer and sleigh and then on a local fire truck through Forest Park stopping at Betsy Ross School Steven san Harrison Gar field Jackson Hannah Nat Bank First Savings Madison Desplaines Circle Randolph St John for visits and candy. The event is organized by the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce.
Forest Park Public Library accepts bookings for three Christmas films including The Christmas Deer and Fire Night before Christmas plus Christmas customs far and near. Library members with good standing cards can access about sixteen films and get a list of titles and ages. Canadian travel films are on deposit with thirteen libraries in Northern Illinois Film Cooperative serving a wide local area.
William C. Heidelbach aged 72 died November 17 after a month in hospital following a serious operation. He was buried in Cecil Wisconsin after living most of his life in Forest Park and later moved to Cecil. He is survived by his wife Mary a sister Martha and a brother Charles A.
Frank Sible 59 of Elgin reportedly despondent over ill health took his life Sunday morning, shooting himself in the stomach as his wife attended church. Former Park Board president, he also served on the Library and Recreation Boards and ran for Village Commissioner in 1955. He belonged to the Eagles and Moose Lodge and helped organize a local Life League. Burial was at Zimmerman's.
The Woman's Bible Class and Mary and Martha Society of the Presbyterian Church host a Christmas Bazaar on Wednesday November 29 from 2 to 9 p.m. Fancy articles and novel ties will be sold. A pancake dinner with pancakes and various foods is served from 6 to 8 p.m. No charge for dinner, free will offering. The community is invited.
Jewelry salesman John Town of Mansfield Ohio was robbed at gunpoint after pulling into a Madison Street lot. Town fought back, tossing one assailant from the car before they fled toward Marengo. Walter Huppenbauer aided Town to Drs Knox and Swanstrom offices. Town sustained scalp lacerations and facial injuries.
Obedience training of dogs will be demonstrated when the Grant- White meets Tuesday with children as guests. The program includes a toy poodle and a golden retriever performing a dog tailed square dance. Miss Margery Ann Meyer was recognized for scholastic achievements at Valparaiso University.
