Ferdinand Haase Pioneer of Forest Home Park

Ferdinand Haase, a German immigrant and pioneer, built the first amusement grounds along the Des Plaines river, turning his Oak Park area farm into Haase’s Park, a popular Chicago resort. He helped railroad construction with gravel and transportation, hosted excursions, and planted a community landmark that fed the growing metropolis before his death in 1870.

Indian Village on DesPlaines River Prominent in Early Park History
