Freddie Caserio Dies at 61 in Weiss Memorial Hospital

Freddie Caserio longtime Chicago area figure and former Golden Glove and Olympic middleweight champion died November 3 at Weiss Memorial Hospital. A restaurateur and host of Old Towne West he toured nightly clubs nationally and abroad as The Honest Pickpocket. Survived by Mary Jane and two sisters Irma Gunner and Mary Favero. Funeral was November 6 at St Giles Church Oak Park with interment at St Marys Cemetery.

Forest Park Grandmother's Club installs officers at Penny Lounge

Lillian Urbanek Secretary Pearl McCormick Vice President Therese Van Thiel President Mae Geyer Publicity. The installation occurred at Harry's Penny Lounge with a gala luncheon and an old fashioned sing a long. Officers installed were Therese Van Thiel president Pearl McCormick vice president Lillian Urbanek secretary and LilMan Kissman treasurer. Next meeting is Wednesday November 10 with a bazaar and Christmas plans underway.

Council Approves Two Apartments in Village Meeting

The village council approved a 12 unit building at 1130 Dunlop Avenue and a 35 unit structure at 1128 Des Plaines after prior zoning denials were revised. Commissioner Lambke opposed Dunlop, arguing larger complexes threaten single family neighborhoods. Mayor Mohr accused him of politicking. A pay raise for village employees, likely near 5.5 percent, was scheduled subject to federal approval. A playground improvement bid and traffic safety concerns at Circle Franklin were also discussed. Viola Gitzel, long a library developer, was remembered.

Harvest of Values turkey giveaway sponsored by Forest Park Chamber

More than 500 pounds of fancy dressed turkeys worth 25 cents each will be given away weekly to coupon holders during the Harvest of Values sales event sponsored by the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce. Drawings occur November 15 and 22 at 9 PM in the REVIEW office.

Viola Gitzel Dies Active Forest Park Civic Leader

Mrs. Viola Gitzel longtime Forest Park civic activist died Saturday at Fairfax Rest Home in Berwyn Illinois. She chaired and served in "Friends of the Library" for over 25 years and joined the Forest Park Library Board in 1954. Active in the Forest Park Women's Club infant welfare and Community Concert efforts she also championed a new Des Plaines Avenue Terminal station.
