Girl Scout Drive Kicks Off Sunday in Forest Park
The annual Girl Scout fund drive begins Sunday in Forest Park and runs through the week. Publicity chairwoman Mrs. William Wied urges Forest Park residents to contribute. Juliette Gordon Low founded the movement, funded early costs herself, and her legacy grew to 168,000 members by 1927 with later milestones leading to her 100th birthday celebration.

New Skipper for Reserve Center Roosevelt and Hannah
Lieut. Com. Forest D. Laws USNR has assumed command of the U S Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Training Center at Roosevelt and Hannah. He succeeds Commodore Charles G Edwards USNR who was detached in August and transferred to hospitals for healing. Laws, from a Navy family, enlisted in 1932 and was sworn in by his father LCDR C G Laws at Norfolk Virginia. He served aboard Indianapolis Houston and Pennsylvania from 1932 to 1936 and held gunnery and damage control posts on various ships through 1945. He later served as staff officer in two destroyer flotillas and as executive officer on USS Scanner GR5 in 1956. In 1958 he commanded the Naval Facility Coos Head Washington before his present assignment.

Walker Wins Again In Fourth District Race
State Representative Claude A. Walker and Walter Ream of Oak Park scored a sweeping victory over Democrats in Tuesday's election despite a national and state landslide for the opposing party. Voters in the district including Oak Park River Forest Riverside Forest Park via Maywood to 9th Avenue turned out in large numbers, with final tallies expected to push Walker's total beyond 60,000 votes.

Automatic Gates Open At CTA Park-N-Ride Lot
Automatic control gates started operation Thursday at STA s new Park N Ride lot at Desplaines near Harrison. The northwest corner lot charges 25 cents for all day parking collected by an attendant. entrance coin box accepts quarters and exit gate triggers by a treadle. Capacity of the lot remains to be announced.

Canadian Officer At Naval Ordnance
Commander Francis J. Boyle of the Royal Canadian Navy has reported to the U S Naval Ordnance plant for an extended temporary duty tour. He comes from Hamilton Ontario where he oversaw ordnance at Canadian Westinghouse and will study U S torpedo production at Forest Park. He has served since 1942 and trained at Keyham England. he and his wife and four children will reside in the area during the stay.

Building Plans for St John Church Move Forward
St John Lutheran Church plans a building program to meet immediate and long range needs.
