Unofficial precinct returns in Forest Park project passage of a police levy raising salaries and funding equipment, plus a separate forestry levy for tree replacement and landscaping. Early results indicate strong support for both measures as votes continue to be tallied.
Robert Sleyko of Broadview was chosen by the student selection committee as Proviso East's Senior Athlete of the Week. The 6 foot 220 pound Proviso Pirates tackle participates in wrestling and tract, is a Major Lettermen's club member, and heads the monitor corps on the Student Council cabinet.
Forest Park Public Schools schedule early dismissal at 2 45 p m each day for two weeks from Tuesday November 12 through Friday November 22 to provide time for parent teacher conferences.
On Friday November 4 1968 schools close for a clerical day for teachers. Veterans Day November 11 will close the district for a legal holiday. Dismissal on Thursday November 7 is 245 pm with classes resuming Tuesday November 12.
Robert P. Dowd has been named account executive in ABC Films Domestic Div. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced by Kevin O Sullivan ABC Films Vice President and General Sales Manager. Dowd will report to Chuck Atkins Central Division Sales Manager. He is son of Commissioner and Mrs. Bob Dowd and a Western Michigan Univ. graduate who joins from the Robert Maxwell Co. at Bell & Howell Co.
The Forest Park Board of Education schedules a meeting for Monday November 18 at 8 p m in the Field Stevenson School board offices. This replaces the regular November 11 session due to the Veteran's Day holiday. The public is invited.
Forest Park Chamber of Commerce president Ray Ratajak asks for support to raise 2500 dollars to rent lighted decorations and fund the children's Christmas party. He emphasizes no capital fund purchase and requests checks payable to the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce Christmas Fund.
Salvatore J Gluffre USN completed nine weeks of Navy basic training at the Naval Training Center. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Lao P Gluffre of 1014 Marengo. During the first weeks he studied military subjects and trained under conditions like those on his first ship or shore station. He received instruction from veteran Navy petty officers in seamanship survival techniques military drill and other subjects.
1st Lieutenant Hugh O Butler received the Infantry School Weapons Dept award for marksmanship excellence when he graduated from Officer Candidate School on October 24. The engraved trophy was presented by Colonel Dena Harron, commander of the 5th Student Battalion, The Candidate Brigade. Lt Butler is the son of Mr and Mrs William R Butler of 532 Marengo.
Ronald Teiwes of 7505 Harvard is named general chairman of Forest Park March of Dimes for 1969. John S. Dean announces the appointment as the local campaign chair to lead January fund drive addressing birth defects affecting about 1000 newborns daily nationwide.
The Forest Park based Community Nursing Service marks its 14th year providing visiting nursing and rehabilitation to 11 communities. Over 50 000 home visits to date, with 600 more planned in Forest Park next year. Staff include qualified RNs and a supervising physical therapist. services include Medicare acceptance and sliding scale fees.
