Legion and VFW to Sponsor Memorial Day Parade

Forest Park American Legion Post 414 and VFW Post 7181 will jointly sponsor a Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 28 in Forest Park. The procession begins at 1 PM from Circle Avenue and Randolph Street and proceeds to Village Park Ferdinand Avenue, with a 2 PM memorial service in the park. Participants include Naval Reserve Surface Division units, Kennedy Division Sea Cadets, Coast Guard Reserve Band, multiple drum and bugle corps, Scout troops, Little League teams, and service color guards. The Rev Elton C Kirstein will give the invocation and benediction, followed by flag raising and Star Spangled Banner, wreaths and gifts, and an address by Major John R Lucas U S Air Force. After the service, honor guards will fire a salute and Taps. Public welcome. chairs available and rain date not specified.

Special Driving Course Offered Here

A National Safety Council defensive driving course will be offered next month by the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce. Classes meet Wednesdays in June from 7 30 to 9 30 at the American Legion Hall taught by State Trooper Osbourn Curtis. No driving instruction. certificates issued on completion. Open to all with focus on seniors preparing for written exams. Advance registrations required by calling 366 2543. Fee is 1.00 to cover materials.

Robbery Foiled at Frank's Pizzeria on Roosevelt Rd

A lone gunman entered Frank's Pizzeria at 7207 Roosevelt Road late Monday night and threatened a waitress. Owner Robert Rockicki drew his gun, firing four shots as the robber fled. Forest Park detectives continue the investigation into whether anyone was hit.

Forest Park Sidewalk Sale Sets June 11 Event

Forest Park merchants stage their annual Sidewalk Sale on Monday June 11 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the 13th year with thousands expected to attend and prizes awarded to coupon holders. Merchants begin distributing coupons June 7 and a prize list of over four dozen items is anticipated.

Buddy Poppy Sale Planned by Forest Park VFW Post

Poppy Day is set for May 24 1973 with Forest Park Memorial VFW Post 7161 and Ladies Auxiliary leading the Buddy Poppy Sale. Disabled veterans in Veterans Administration Hospitals and State Homes assemble poppies, pack them into boxes for shipment to over 9 000 VFW Posts and Auxiliaries nationwide, a year round or part time program across about 15 facilities. The VFW pays workers, aiding their income and comfort during hospital life.
