Forest Park prepares a Friday and Saturday tag day to fund the PONY COLT and BRONCO baseball programs. Boys 13 and older will collect door to door from 4 p m with uniforms, supporting leagues facing team size constraints and sponsor needs for the Broncos.
Volunteers plan to go door to door this week for the Mental Health Society. State hospitals spend about 3.38 dollars per patient daily, while private hospitals spend 25 dollars. Funds support clinic establishment and an educational program.
A 150 person Civil Air Patrol dinner dance at Eagles Hall drew Mayor elect Howard Mohr and Forest Park Kiwanis Lions and VFW members. Local merchants Wick Jewelers Pines Restaurant Circle Bootery and TriPark donated prizes. Lt. Col Howard Kneas Kern of Group 23 supplied an airplane trip for two.
Mrs. Ruby Prather of 1002 Lathrop and her sons Hans 13 and Mike 12 were injured when their car left Roosevelt and Lathrop, struck a tree after she turned left. Mrs. Prather suffered facial cuts, Hans had a fractured nose and knee wound requiring 11 stitches, Mike felt neck and back pains. They were treated at Oak Park Hospital.
The Chicago Motor Club meets in Oak Park on Monday to tackle suburban traffic issues including a hazardous left turn at Randolph and Elgin where trees obstruct motorists vision.
A dinner dance in Milwaukee raises funds for one flight scholarship for an air cadet. Forest Park’s Civil Air Patrol squadron operates from the Naval and Marine Reserve Training Center at Roosevelt and Hannah and meets every Thursday at 7 p.m.
Tony Santoro of 10098 Harlem retires from Sunbeam Corporation after 35 years as a machinist in the animal clipping machine department. He has lived at the listed address for several years.
Helen Gaden a longtime Forest Park resident who moved to Oklahoma City in 1951 died May 1 She served as Forest Park Woman s Club president Red Cross chairman and Infant Welfare worker She was with Trageros Appliance Store records department and is survived by husband Ralph son Ralph Jr daughter Joanne Herbold and four grandchildren Services were held in Oklahoma City.
The Infant Welfare installation luncheon will be held at Otto's Restaurant on May 16 with Lil Schank and Geene Schultz as co chairmen. The TRI-TONE trio from Proviso East will provide entertainment and reservations are due by Monday.
Margaret Crawford is named president of the Forest Park Board of Education. The board holds its first meeting Friday at Field Stevensan School, with Walter Wolf serving as secretary.
The Riveredge Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at 8311 Roosevelt. New officers will be installed during the gathering.
Forest Park teams only invited to a meeting in Village Hall on Thursday May 9 at 7 30 pm. Entries cap at nine teams due to limited playing fields. For information contact Bob Dowd at FO 6 0989.
