Forest Park backs parking meters on Madison avenue
The Forest Park Safety and Traffic Control commission told Mayor Reich and the village council that parking meters be installed on Madison from Circle to Des Plaines for a six month trial. A two hour parking zone would run from Circle to Marlem with two hour limits on side streets to alleys. Alleys parallel to Madison should become one way routes and deliveries should shift to alleys where feasible.

William Vertis and Frank Lehnerstein were appointed to the Forest Park fire department this week, with their appointments effective May 1. They were recommended by the Forest Park Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, bringing the department roster to 11, the largest in village history.

Walter Gauger Dies After Elmhurst Accident
Walter J. Gauger of 111 Rockford died at Elmhurst Hospital four hours after a mid afternoon auto crash. He worked for Field & Co and was driving a company truck when another car struck his vehicle. Born February 18 1911 in Forest Park he spent most of his life there and married Lucille Critchfield August 4 1990. He is survived by his wife mother Minnie Gauger son Walter Jr and daughter Virginia four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held May 3 at Zimmermann chapel with interment Chapel Hills cemetery.

Living Costs Push Tax Rates Upward in Park City
Auditor Wynn M. Wagner reported to the village council that rising living costs and higher material expenditures have driven tax rates higher. The U S Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a 7M plus percent cost rise in the year ending March 31 and a 6.88 percent rise over the last decade. Details include 1947 tax rates for 147 and 1946 figures, with Forest Park village set at 0.550 for 1947, up 0.060 or about 2 percent.

Return Body of Pe A J Kitchens to Native Village
The casketed remains of Pe Alexander J Kitchens will be returned to his native village for final interment. A telegram to his mother Frances Kitchees of 1001 Dunlop confirms the service. Kitchens was killed in action in France on June 27, 1944. On arrival at Forest Park the casket will lie in state at Zimmermen’s chapel 7319 Madison, with memorial service date to be announced.
