Forest Park's new Village Council convened amid cheers and flowers as the old and new members were sworn in. Tensions surfaced over salary reductions and the handling of appointments, with Calagno and Dannenberg clashing with Mer and Wolfman as party loyalties emerged.
May 1 meeting in Forest Park Illinois convened with Oath of Office administered to Mayor Try Cel lis and four new council members. Mayor Collis Jr named staff, discussed Stop and Go light study, and approved a May 6 dance permit. An ordinance raising village salaries for May 1 1939 passed on roll call.
Two carpenters William Gerseeske 43 of 6 Thomas Ave and Gas Wolff 45 of 7239 Madison were killed when their car was struck by a westbound Chicago Aurora and Elgin train at Poplar Avenue crossing in Elmhurst. Driver Harry Blede 48 of Melrose Park is in serious condition. A witness said the car waited for an eastbound train then crossed into the path of the school children's special. Crossing bells and lights were said to be working.
A local gathering at 529 Murengy Avenue featured Scout workers raising 300 dollars as the year’s fundraising goal. Attendees listed include Gus Hafner Kalpb Heb Raul Berlin and many others as they plan to meet or exceed the target by Monday.
City of New Village announces a slate of appointments led by Mayor Tom Collis Jr naming commissioners for Public Affairs Accounts and Finances Public Health and Safety Streets and Public Improvements Public Property and other village roles. Supporting officials include Village Clerk Treasurer Water Works and related department heads with several clerks and assistants listed.
The Forest Minutemen meet Monday at Schwab's Hall for a lecture on guns and a shooting demonstration by John Mears of Klmhurst. Tickets for the semi annual raffle were distributed to members. the drawing is June 12. Prizes include a Johnson Twin Outboard motor valued at 129.50, a Winchester gun worth 50, and a Pflueger Supreme reel valued at 1875. Tickets are 25 or 50 cents and available from members.
Mr and Mrs Clarene Aadrey announce the birth of their daughter at Westlake Hospital on May 139. The baby weighs a healthy amount and joins a family with other children.
St John s Lutheran Church will hold a series of open air services next Wednesday May 10 at 8 o clock in the new park opposite the Park Administration building Beloit and Morrison streets Pastor M Wagner will lead a program of sermons and music under the title Jesus Christ Who He Is and What He Offers Evening services run each Wednesday in May and June with notable Lutheran speakers and amplified seating for large crowds
