Wage campaign to secure sales tax for relief

A Non-Partisan Campaign meeting drew 400 plus in Union Hall Maywood with most candidates present except three due to illness. Speaker Poole urged securing state sales tax funds for local relief, urging laws or amendments to send Proviso its fair share, while honoring Justice of the Peace Josephine Melville Myers and supporting her colleagues.

St Peters Church Schedules Four Easter Services

St Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold four Easter services starting at 6:30 AM with a sunrise service, followed by 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM services. William Buch prepared sermons for the occasion and the public is invited to attend any service.

Record Easter Services At M E Church Draw Large Crowd

Preparations aim for a record crowd this Sunday at 1 o clock for Easter service. Pastor Armand Guerrero will preach The Power of an Unconditional Faith. Velma Edwards directs the robed choir for special anthems. A large group of members will be received. The Easter worship of the entire Sunday school is at 10 o clock in the sanctuary with seats for all and a presentation of the new metal cross by Mrs Cald wells class. Adults invited to encourage children. At 6 p m Epworth League Easter breakfast and sunrise service follow. The evening service closes Lenten Holy Week with a sermon The Reality of His Presence by the pastor, featuring Bette Hilton. Visitors invited.

Mrs Witt Dies in Chicago Hospital After Major Surgery

Mrs Paul R Witt, longtime Forest Park resident, died Friday March 19 1937 in American Hospital Chicago after ten days as patient and a major operation. Funeral services were held at St Poke Lutheran church with relatives from Anna Henschel Witt’s family present. Interment in Concordia cemetery. She was born in Chicago September 1884 and married Paul R Witt September 15 1910. Survived by Paul Jr and Gertrude Witt, daughter in law Mrs Paul Witt Jr, her mother Anna Henschel, sisters Carolan Henschel Lillian Walters and Mrs Raymund Simukel. She was active in Ladies Aid of St John’s and Garden Club of Forest Park.

Emil A. Gorke Dies At Age 12 In Forest Park

Emil A Gorke aged 12 died at home 1034 Ebgin avenue on Thursday March 8 1937. He was a machinist by trade and had lived in Forest Park twenty five years after moving from Chicago where he was born. Survived by wife Alice Doerr Gorke and daughter Pearl. Grace is dead. Funeral held Monday at home with Rev Frederick Kalb Reisch officiating. Interment at Oak Ridge. Judge Otto Gorke is a cousin.

Better Government Party Holds Forest Park Mass Meetings

The Better Government Party of Proviso staged two large Forest Park meetings at Kit Kat Klub and Mefourn’s Hall on March 24 to rally support, denounce real estate taxes, and promise a larger share of sales tax. Local candidates Roy Mohr Edward M Platt Al Ehrhardt John Hatneddt Willam Calli Jr Robert Tropf and others drew praise and strong crowds as the party wraps up its Forest Park campaign before the April 6 election.
